When you go to work, some days are just okay, and others are great. Yesterday, the UWBG team had one of those outstanding, can’t keep a smile off of your face, jump up and down kind of days.
We enjoy making a positive impact on as many lives as we can, in as many ways as we can, so naturally we love teaming up with others who have the same goal! That is exactly what we did yesterday when we partnered up with our friends, Servonta Strategic Philanthropy, to deliver 1,000, books to two local elementary schools in Lexington, Kentucky. This means 1,000 kids were able to take home a book they selected. Giving a child a book of their very own is a small gesture to let them know our community cares. Over 60% oflow-income children in Kentucky don’t own a single book, putting the importance of this gesture in perspective.
Jonathan Beatty founder of Servonta, says he is excited to go to work each day. “One of my favorite memories is when a little girl chose her book and said ‘this is the best day of my life!’ Knowing you have an impact on a child’s life, not even just their day, is why I do what I do."
With the school year winding down and the lure of spending time on the couch playing video games, these donated books will allow students the opportunity to get lost in a story during their time off. It is the goal of this project to foster a mindset for learning and imagination and to give kids the opportunity to further develop their reading skills heading into a new school year in the Fall. Part of our Big Bold Goal is to support school readiness and student success, and this partnership with Servonta helps achieve just that.
