CKEEP Intern Description 

Reports to: Financial Stability Manager

 

Project Description: The Central Kentucky Economic Empowerment Project (CKEEP) is a coalition, led by United Way of the Bluegrass, that partners with the IRS to provide free tax preparation to low-income families, raise awareness about the Earned Income Tax Credit, and help families build assets. The duration of this internship will be November 2018-May 2019.  This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking a career in the non-profit sector.

 

Position Description: The role of the CKEEP Intern is to assist the CKEEP staff with the daily operations related to the project. The intern must be flexible, demonstrate an attention to detail, display a high level of integrity and confidentiality, and be personable and professional. The individual will work to further UWBG’s Financial Stability impact through participant contact, partnership maintenance, and community outreach. The intern is expected to become certified to prepare client taxes through the national Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Minimal travel may be involved; license and reliable transportation required. The intern may also be assisting the 2-1-1 call specialists with the influx of tax-related callers. There will be no wages or benefits paid to the intern for the duration of the position.

 

211 Description: 2-1-1 is an information-and-referral service designed to connect callers with available resources so people can find food, housing, health care, volunteer opportunities, etc. During the tax preparation season, the 2-1-1 referral service also becomes the avenue from which callers can set up an appointment to receive the free tax preparation service at one of the UWBG’s designated tax preparation sites.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

·         Acquire the Basic level training in tax preparation needed to volunteer

·         Volunteer in tax preparation at a designated tax sites

·         Assist with program recruitment/outreach/marketing

·         Assist the CKEEP staff with the ongoing operation of the program

·         Collect and analyze data from tax sites

·         Address site manager questions and concerns

·         Run data reports

·         Serve as a 2-1-1 call specialist as needed to screen callers to determine eligibility for free tax preparation

·         Schedule tax appointments
