Lexington, KY - July 22, 2015 -  WLEX, WKYT, WTVQ and WDKY are teaming up with United Way of the Bluegrass to work with local agencies, clients and community leaders to produce a television special to air across all four, local network channels simultaneously on Saturday, August 22 at 7:00 PM. Evening news anchors from all four Lexington stations are coming together to produce a thirty-minute special named, Night to Unite. The program will serve as a platform to bring awareness to some of the issues facing Central Kentucky and encourage our communities to “unite” to improve or solve these issues. The program will highlight the work of partner agencies and United Way programs, and will include commentary from local leaders in the community.

United Way of the Bluegrass CEO & President, Bill Farmer hopes the program will put a spotlight on some of the issues and opportunities facing the Bluegrass today. “This unique and historic effort is meant to capture some of the inspiring stories we see through our work in the community every day, and show the Central Kentucky community the power of collaboration and community engagement. When we all unite and work together, the possibilities are endless. We are very grateful to the local stations for their leadership and participation to help make Night to Unite possible. Farmer says, “Central Kentucky is one of the great regions to live in America. Our collective community goal is for everyone to have the opportunity to be as successful as possible."

The “Night to Unite” idea was born as United Way officials were meeting with Pat Dalbey, President and General Manager of LEX18, on how his station could be more involved in United Way’s Big Bold Goal to help 10,000 more Bluegrass families become self-sufficient by 2020. Dalbey was looking at how his station could help inform the public about the goal and he reached out to his counterparts at the other local stations to ask for their participation in a special collaboration. “We have a great group of leaders representing the local television markets. It was no surprise to me that all of the stations jumped at the chance to work together on production of Night to Unite. We are hopeful that the program will help create some positive attention around the many agencies and programs supported through United Way, and may inspire people to get involved by giving or volunteering. The Night to Unite special will air on WLEX, WKYT, WTVQ and WDKY at 7:00 PM on Saturday, August 22, 2015.

United Way is hosting a fundraising preview party to be held at The Signature Club of Lansdowne on Friday, August 21 at 8:00 PM. For more information about Night to Unite or to purchase tickets to the preview party, visit Night to Unite.
