United Way of the Bluegrass President Elected to National United way Leadership Position

Bill Farmer, President of United Way of the Bluegrass, has been elected to serve on United Way Worldwide’s National Professional Council, a leadership body advising on issues of importance to United Way both nationally and in local communities.

“The National Professional Council is a valuable leadership and advisory council to the United Way movement,” said Farmer.  “I look forward to being a member of this dynamic advisory group, helping to ensure that our movement continues to meet the highest standards in performance and accountability.”

United Way Worldwide’s National Professional Council comprises 64 United Way CEOs in the U.S. and serves as a national leadership body for a movement of nearly 1,200 member United Way organizations, advising United Way Worldwide’s president and providing leadership in building the United Way network in the United States.

“The National Professional Council has a vital role in building the United Way movement,” said Brian Gallagher, president and CEO of United Way Worldwide.  “Its members work to ensure that our mission of advancing the common good is successful in each and every community across America.”

“United Way Worldwide’s mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities,” said Farmer.  “This is an opportunity for me to contribute even more to this effort not only on the local level but the national level as well.”

Farmer serves as a member of Board of Visitors of the Martin School of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Kentucky. He has been appointed by the Governor to serve on the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Services. Farmer is a member of the Kentucky Nonprofit Leadership Initiative Advisory Council. He also serves as a member of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Department of Social Services Advisory Board. Farmer is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland’s Bluegrass Region Advisory Council and the Commerce Lexington Board of Directors.
