POSITION

The Vice President of Resource Development (VPRD) serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the organization. In partnership with the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this position is responsible for overseeing all fundraising and development activities in support of critical community programs. The successful candidate will lead an established team of 4-5 development officers to oversee the annual giving campaign and help UWBG forge new relationships to grow revenue and impact across its ten-county region. The VPRD is responsible for the development and execution of strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.

 

The VPRD will have primary responsibility to manage the infrastructure needed to sustain and grow impact and fundraising through corporate engagement, workplace giving, major gifts, grants, affinity groups, and more. The VPRD will expand and diversify the UWBG donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new programs, including our WayPoint Center initiative. In addition, the VPRD will work closely with the Board of Directors and support key volunteers as they take on a more active engagement and fundraising role.  The VPRD will creatively seek new opportunities to generate revenue and other resources that add greater value to the organization and the community.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

 

  • Support and partner with President & CEO and Board of Directors on all major fundraising and engagement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement UWBG’s regional fundraising strategy.

  • Provide strong leadership and direction to maintain and grow a major gifts portfolio and to build transformational, leadership, planned giving, and other donor pipelines.

  • Inspire donors and potential donors to see UWBG as the nonprofit that harnesses the power of communities working together to deliver innovative and effective solutions that create lasting change.

  • Develop and oversee UWBG’s fundraising goals and Resource Development’s budget in order to meet and exceed organizational and community expectations.

  • Manage and motivate a highly successful team of resource development officers, effectively leading by establishing annual, measurable goals and objectives.

  • Develop and implement a strong acknowledgement and stewardship program aimed at building deeper relationships with donors at every giving level.

  • Professionally represent and share the mission of UWBG at city, business, government, and volunteer events and activities across the UWBG service region.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a leadership role, holding progressively responsible positions in fundraising. Nonprofit experience preferred.

  • Innovative thinker with proven track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and results.

  • Nimble leader who can pivot quickly as challenges or opportunities arise.

  • Comprehensive management skills to lead, mentor, motivate and inspire the resource development team.

  • Possess an existing portfolio of Central Kentucky donors, and strong relationships that will aid in the development and growth of UWBG’s major gifts program is strongly preferred.

  • A comprehensive and expert knowledge of the science of fundraising and moves management.

  • Build organizational capability by identifying skills needed in the department and recruiting and developing staff in alignment with strategic priorities.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication, public speaking, and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing a comprehensive and successful fund development program.

  • Experience with development office functions including gift processing, prospect research, reporting and analytics.

  • Extensive experience with customer relationship management (CRM) databases, moves management processes, and donor prospecting.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suites, and virtual meeting platforms including Microsoft Teams and ZOOM.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee is regularly required to communicate clearly, in oral and written formats, with others in person, over the phone and via other devices. The employee must be able to transcribe, read extensively, prepare, and analyze data and figures, operate a computer and other standard office machinery. The employee is required to travel, by car, regularly to locations throughout UWBG’s regional footprint. Access to a reliable automobile and the ability to drive it is essential to this position. The employee must have the ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects weighing up to 25lbs.

 

BENEFITS

The position is full-time and exempt, with full benefits including health, vision, and dental insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance and 401K program. UWBG will pay 100 percent of employee’s healthcare premiums (Coverage for spouse and dependents is also available.). Compensation is commensurate with candidate’s experience and skillset within the range of $80,000 to $90,000 annually.
