How To Celebrate a Budget-Friendly Holiday Season

The holiday season is a time of celebration for many, but can also be a time of financial stress. You can make memories with those who matter most without going into debt by following these 5 tips:

Tip #1: Create a budget… and stick to it!

You’re more likely to stay within your budget if you know how much money you have available to spend during the holiday season. You can use our printable holiday and gift-giving budget sheets to do this.

Tip #2: Pay with cash

Even if certain stores aren’t accepting cash, set aside a certain amount for each budgeted area. When you reach that amount, you should stop spending.

Tip #3: The myth of the credit card

Don’t use a credit card to go over budget! If you do this, you will have to pay interest.

Tip #4: Compare prices before buying

Be sure to check for sales, coupons and other purchase locations before purchasing something. A quick search online can help uncover some of these savings!

Tip #5: Be unique

Some of the best gifts don’t have to be purchased! Your friends and family may also appreciate homemade gifts or gifts of food. You can also give gifts of service by offering to provide childcare for a friend or complete a landscaping project for a family member.
